The Socceroos were frustrated with the time-wasting tactics of the Jordanians during their shock 2-0 defeat but the only disappointment from their coach was that they were allowed to do it.

Several Jordanian players went down with injury only to rise minutes later, even calling for the services of stretcher bearers. The Australian team was unhappy with the negative tactics that have become common in Asian football but their feelings weren't exactly shared by Ange Postecoglou.

The Socceroos coach would have no doubt been angry the game was halted so frequently due to unsporting behaviour but says his greatest displeasure was that Jordan were in a position to do so. Barely 30 seconds after half-time, Australia gave Jordan a chance to take the lead from the spot after defender Matthew Spiranovic fouled forward Hamza Al-Dardour inside the box. There was no turning back for the hosts who slotted the resulting penalty and turned to more defensive, counter-attacking and negative tactics to win the game.

"Our game plan is based around making the opposition work hard, it's pretty hard to do that when they're lying on the ground for 20 minutes. It's not a criticism of them, that's the advantage they have when they hit the front and we should be well aware of that," Postecoglou said.

Jordan's break-up of the play and slowing down of the clock disrupted any sense of rhythm in the Socceroos' possession-based play. Defender Bailey Wright was unhappy with the manner it was tolerated by the officials. "There were times it was frustrating, you've seen there was a lot of time wasting going on but that's part of the game, as much as we hate it. You've got to control what you can control and unfortunately that's just one of those things that can happen," he said.

It was the first time Australia has lost since the Asian Cup group stage last January and concerning for the Socceroos was the ease in which Jordan got behind their defenders from long balls or counter-attacks. Postecoglou says there was no shortage of motivation and his players denied they underestimated Jordan but criticised lapses in concentration for thier woes. "We had a plan in place and we were working according to that plan If you switch off for a second, away from home and you concede a goal then you know what you're going to get afterwards," Postecoglou said.
