The truck's fuel tank caught alight and exploded after leaving the road at Barnawartha North about 5.20pm Tuesday.
The driver escaped the vehicle before the flames took hold and was later taken to hospital.
The cabin of the truck was completely gutted and melted from the heat.
The man had travelled in a straight line off the road and about 40 firefighters were needed to bring the blaze under control.
It took at least an hour to stop the goods inside the truck from burning.
Police are investigating the cause and whether fatigue was a factor, and want to speak to witnesses.
