It finished with four wins to narrowly fall short of eventual winners Southern Slopes.
Albury’s Eddie Simmons (North Albury), Chris Heather (Holbrook), Kerry Boyle (Henty) and Peter Forck (Henty) won the best performed rink over the weekend after carding five wins.
The Border line-up started with a comfortable win over Riverina and followed up with a victory over South West.
It then led Southern Slopes but faltered late and lost by two shots on the final end.
Albury finished with success over Wagga which was a huge form reversal after losing to the same opposition in a trial several weeks earlier.
Terry Hensel’s 13-9 win over state player David Ferguson was the highlight.
The shield has been running since 1962 with Albury last tasting success in 2009 at Temora.
