It's the couple's first time on the island in 36-years and, while they want to come home, travel insurance has allowed them to relax during an unexpected situation.
Flights in and out of Denpasar have been grounded or rescheduled since Tuesday after Mount Rinjani, on the neighbouring island of Lombok, erupted.
Mrs Dawson said they had arrived on the island on October 26 and had been due to fly out Thursday night.
"We aren’t rebooking because you never know whether the flight will be cancelled, but we are on the emergency list," she said.
"We've decided to hang tight, as long as you have travel insurance it's all fine.
"Everybody made jokes before we left saying we might not get back, but we are all laughing about it.
"It is important to get insurance and look at what your policy covers.”
The Dawsons have been keeping an eye on Jetstar booking alerts and staying in contact with their daughter, Kate Blom, who managed to get one of the last flights before the eruption.
Some flights took off from Denpasar on Sunday with Perth and Darwin-bound planes scheduled to run.
"It's all about safety at the end of the day, it's no big drama to us," Mrs Dawson said.
"We are just enjoying it while we can, but it will be nice to go home.”
Mrs Dawson said the incident had not turned them off Bali, but they hoped to leave by Monday.
Meanwhile Wodonga couple Rory Carroll and Lauren McLeish have been stuck in Melbourne.
The pair headed back to the Border on Sunday after having two flights to Bali cancelled on Saturday.
Mr Carroll said they gave up on their first five nights together, but hoped the final five with friends would still happen.
"Our last ditch effort is for Thursday morning, but if not we will cancel and try again next year,” he said.
"After two incidents like this in three months, it's probably not worth going back next time.”
