Kitchen caddies useless
I AM all for the new three bin system, it is a great way to reduce landfill.

However, I can only imagine the cost of setting up the system, supply of all those kitchen caddies, the apparent “one year’s supply” of compostable bags and the advertising involved.
Our supply of compostable bags ran out after three months and I’m presuming most households would be in the same boat if one to two bags were used daily.
Being unable to source more compostable bags locally, I phoned Wodonga Council and was advised of a local business that could supply them.
However, on calling this business I was informed they are a mobile business, and there is nowhere to purchase and pick the bags up from, and they do not deliver to Baranduda.
The manager on hearing my frustration was prepared to deliver as a one-off but how is one small mobile business going to deliver bags to so many households when it is not even their primary business?
The other option was to pay $9.50 for postal delivery on top of $7.50 for 25 bags! On informing Wodonga Council of this, one staff member told me the bags aren’t necessary and I should just use the large green bin.
In other words, making the kitchen caddies totally useless as they cannot even be used as a bucket for compost scraps in the kitchen due to the open slats design.
What a pity more research wasn’t done into how this system would work after a few months when our bags had run out. I was able to buy more bags online at a significant cost but clearly not everyone has the ability to do this. No wonder our rates are so high.

Clear a few things up
I WRITE in response to Alan Lappin (The Border Mail, November 7), to clear a few things up.
There is no such thing as the LNP in Victoria. This term is only used outside Queensland in a derisory manner by the political opponents of the Coalition, which I assume Mr Lappin is.
Having said that, you can’t ignore reality and Mr Lappin's analysis of Cathy McGowan as a "lame duck" and Sophie Mirabella as the active political representative is shaped by reality.
I know Sophie Mirabella is working extremely hard to make things happen and she is getting federal ministers to actually do things for this electorate.
One of the reasons she can do this is because she is a highly regarded member of the Liberal Party. She gets some deserved publicity as a result of her hard work and what’s wrong with that?
Cathy McGowan herself regularly reminds us she is outside the party system as if that somehow improves her influence in Canberra and effectiveness in Indi. Voters can make up their own minds about how useful that is.
Mr Lappin’s claim that the Liberal Party is “sparing no expense” to brainwash the public is nonsense and not only insults the media but shows that he has no idea about how the Liberal Party operates as the largest volunteer political party in Australia.
On my analysis, Mr Lappin has more letters published in this journal than any other individual in the nation, so his complaints about brainwashing ring a little hollow.
I’m happy to see Mr Lappin supports Malcolm Turnbull though, because he and Sophie get along extremely well.
I have no doubt the Prime Minister will be visiting the North East sometime soon in support of Sophie's campaign.
In finishing, I must take The Border Mail to task. It regularly publishes letters from Alan Lappin without requiring him to declare his interest. His most recent letter should have included the appellation: "Candidate for Indi". So come on Border Mail and Alan Lappin, be honest with your readers.
