So why not one for the Albury-Wodonga region?
That’s the question owner of The 13th Dimension Conan Trainor has been asking this week.
In the wake of Melbourne receiving the honour of having a version of Monopoly named after it, Mr Trainor, who has played board games all of his life, feels he knows the formula for a successful local interpretation.
“When we are looking at Melbourne, Sydney and all of the other city versions of the game across Australia they are looking at attractions,” Mr Trainor said.
“It’s almost like an advertisement for the city and it strays away from the streets and more traditional tiles.
“So if we’d want to be looking at what awesome thing we have here in the Albury-Wodonga region would appeal to people who play the game.”
Mr Trainor hinted that collectors of the iconic board game in the region would be keen to add the Border variant to their selection if it were ever to be made.
“I know there are just so many people in the region who buy Monopoly, who collect the different versions of the game,” he said.
“So I think it would sell quite well in this area if they ever made one.”
What do you think should be included in a Border Monopoly game?
We’ll start things off some suggested property tiles.
Hume Weir
Given its size we think it would make a perfect substitute for Boardwalk, land on it and watch your cash go bye-bye.
Albury Train Station
Since there are a lack of train stations in the region, one of Albury’s iconic landmarks could be used more as a property tile, rather than a railway utility.
The Flying Fruit Fly Circus
The important cultural icon on the Border would not look out of place as a red tile, think Piccadilly if you are looking at the English version of the game.
MAMA
Given it is the “new kid on the block” when it comes to Border landmarks, MAMA would have to earn its stripes as a light blue tile. Early on in your trip around the board but dangerous if you build it up.
There are plenty more tiles to be filled, let us know what you think would be a worthy addition to the board and even what could be used for playing tokens.
