The grand final replay is not the only blockbuster clash on Good Friday, with Wangaratta v Raiders colliding in what is a huge way to start the season.
OMFNL general manager Aaron McGlynn said a blockbuster round one was an indication of what the competition was out to create throughout the year.
“What better way to start off the new season with a grand final replay under lights? 2016 is shaping up as another big year with so many marquee matches,” McGlynn said.
Other matches of note in the year include Lavington and Wodonga Raiders facing off under lights in round three while the Panthers head to Wangaratta a week later for another night match in round four against the Magpies.
Round five will be a rivalry round of sorts with the traditional Anzac Day derbies between North Albury and Albury, as well as Wodonga and Wodonga Raiders set to feature.
Corowa-Rutherglen host Yarrawonga and Wangaratta head across the road to take on the old enemy, Wangaratta Rovers on April 24.
Going against tradition the OMFNL grand final will be held on the September 18, two weeks before the AFL season decider.
“After the AFL’s decision to extend their season by a week it just wasn’t feasible to follow our normal time frame with Easter falling so early in 2016,” McGlynn said.
