People have been knocking off the footwear – sometimes valued up to about $200 – from random homes.
The shoes are often ending up on Facebook pages used to buy and sell goods in Albury-Wodonga.
In one case about a week ago, a distinctive pair of grey and green Nikes, pictured, were stolen from a home.
When police traced the theft, they discovered the previous owner had also stolen them.
Police are trying to track down the owner and are suggesting people keep their shoes inside and avoid buying goods from the online pages.
If you own the shoes, call police on (02) 6049 2600.
