The towns are planning a second shot at the Regional Arts Victoria funding that would create six major arts projects around the state by the end of 2018.
RAV manager Graham Coffey, who held six information sessions in the North East this week, said the projects could be anything from sculptures to literature to performing arts.
“The possibilities are absolutely endless and every community will imagine that differently,” he said.
“The strength of this program is that it comes from within the town.”
Yackandandah’s Kevin Poyner said his town would learn from missing out on the funding when it was first introduced in 2012.
He said a small group of residents had plans for a project that was centred around some of Yackandandah’s strengths: music and performing art.
“We wanted to combine the musical theme of the folk festival with the arts theme,” Mr Poyner said.
“There are a few boxes we can tick better.”
He said every town could benefit on spending a $350,000 grant on the arts.
Nomination opened for the funding this month and close in February before the shortlist announcement in March.
Mr Coffey said 63 towns applied last time and he expected that to rise to about 100 before the next round of six towns were selected.
“The thought is how this transformation manages to have an impact on your town,” he said.
