Tucked away in the picturesque Buckland Valley, The Traditional Plum Pudding Co has attracted national attention with a string of accolades at food shows this year.
The cherry on top came when the company’s family size pudding was awarded a gold medal and the highest score in its category at the Sydney Royal Fine Food Show 2015.
Its Chocolate and Hazelnut Panforte, made with renowned Mount Buffalo Hazelnuts, also received a gold medal in the show.
The Traditional Plum Pudding Co chef Chris Davey, who has been wielding his spoons in his commercial country kitchen to make plum puddings, fruit cakes and panforte in time for Christmas lunch, welcomed their successful debut on the show circuit this year.
“It was a huge surprise,” he said.
“We have never entered any of the shows and to get such great feedback and medals on a whole range of our products is amazing.
“The judges at the Royal Melbourne and Royal Hobart Fine Food Awards agreed and awarded a series of medals too, so we are extremely happy with the results.”
Partner Vivian Andersen said she was now busy packing puddings to send out Australiawide to shops and as corporate staff and customer gifts for Christmas.
“People are trying not to buy just ‘stuff’,” she said.
“They want to give something, which they know will be used or enjoyed. So food items have become a popular gift.”
The couple founded Alpine Valleys Fine Foods about three years ago before adding hampers from the North East to their mix in late 2014.
They teamed up with other artisan growers and producers in the region to offer a luxury hamper range to showcase the North East.
Items have been hand-picked and include well-loved brands such as Milawa Mustards; Boynton’s Feathertop; Mayford and Ringer Reef Wines; the Australian Pumpkin Seed Company; and award-winning Bright Chocolate Factory plus many more.
Ms Andersen said Chris was now busy making the next batch of puddings.
“It'll be Christmas soon and then he can have a well deserved rest,” she said.
