The Border’s national premier league club has set up its summer training camps in Albury – deals with the city’s council and hockey centre providing unlimited access to prepare for next year.
Seniors, under-20s and under-18s have all been training and trialling next to the hockey centre in East Albury for the past month.
The juniors have been split between Waites Park in South Albury and Wodonga’s Willow Park.
Senior coach James Coutts said it was important for the club to embrace both sides of the border.
“It’s really positive to have a home base in the summer – with players really impressed with the set-up and surface,” he said.
“But this year we jumped at the chance to start and finish our pre-season here in East Albury and develop the relationship with the hockey centre who have been great in supporting Murray United.
“We’ll be here until the end of daylight savings.
“It raises our profile as a club that is representative of Albury and Wodonga and reflective of the fact that the club is well and truly a mix of players from both sides of the Border and the North East.
“Already we have people who see the signage, see the activity and pop in.
“In part this is the next step in building a club, not just a team but a culture and family built around the Murray United brand.”
Coutts said their pre-Christmas sessions already has United well-placed for their second season.
“We are a long way in front of where we were last year.”
