A promise to do more for youth mental health has been applauded by Indi MP Cathy McGowan.

She was pleased, she said, the federal government “has listened to the concerns raised by the sector, mental health sufferers and families”.
Ms McGowan’s comments follow the government’s recent release of reforms.
That came under the Australian Government Response – Review of Mental Health Programs and Services.
Ms McGowan said she made mental health – especially for young people – a major 2013 election commitment.
She was also happy there would also be a greater focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health.
“There is a desperate need in these areas,” she said.
Ms McGowan said she made made ongoing representations to the federal government on issue since 2013.
“These reforms must be accepted by the rural mental health sector and people and families dealing with mental health issues,” she said.
