The undisputed winner of the Border’s social media popularity contest is Indi MP Cathy McGowan.
She has 6431 Facebook likes and 15,300 Twitter followers, just ahead of Farrer MP Sussan Ley with 5201 Facebook likes and 12,700 Twitter followers.
Ms McGowan’s social media accounts are run like an online diary, containing smiling photos with groups she speaks to each day.
She and her supporters have started to use the #loveindi hashtag, which can be an ode to the region or confused with Indiana Jones or a former Home and Away character.
As Sports Minister, Ms Ley’s social media has a photo collection with Australia’s best sports men and women that could only be rivaled by a member of the green and gold wearing fanatics.
While Ms Ley sticks to the government message, Mrs Mirabella went off-book during election campaign mode when she posted a YouTube link to what she called “classic consumer action”.
The clip, called “I Made A Mistake I Bought A Lemon Jeep”, features bad rapping and a woman cleaning a car in a skimpy outfit.
Greens candidate Jenny O’Connor is the most prolific tweeter in Indi and the most likely to get into an argument over current affairs.
She has yet to follow the trend of posting numerous pictures of herself.
Mr Corboy from the Nationals has shown he is not afraid to mock himself, quoting a tweet that said “if his vote is as large as his head he'll be a shoo-in”.
For balance, he gleefully posted a link to a story referring to him as the “George Clooney of Wangaratta”.
Eric Kerr has shown he is happy to fly the Labor flag by attacking the Liberal Party, but is still clearly a member of generation Y.
Tweets reveal he has enjoyed CrossFit and contain stereotypical lunch photos.
Victoria’s Ovens Valley MP Tim McCurdy is far less flippant with his tweets and has started to throw zingers at political opponents.
His latest victim was Labor’s Northern Victoria MP: “Jacylyn (sic) Symes MP pumps up the tyres (sic) of a different King Valley winery whilst being hosted by Brown Bros.. A little awkward!”.
Cr Ross Jackson is a self-confessed “Railway Tycoon, Albury City Councillor” and looking at his Twitter account, it’s in that order.
Followers are regularly treated to pictures of train and planes, including selfies.
Cr Jackson might need to help Cr Daryl Betteridge, whose one tweet in 2012 was “trying to figure this out”.
He never did, but 72 followers wait for him to try.
