With a young side featuring the likes of Eskdale teenager Liam Tobin and no overage players, Simmonds’ charges were outclassed by the Murray Valley, who set a benchmark of 255.
Though they mustered only 188 in reply, the Belvoir spinner was pleased with solid efforts from a number of fresh faces.
“A lot of these guys haven’t had experience against the calibre of players we saw on Sunday,” he said.
“But Sam Stephens and Jack Holt were both very impressive with the ball, alongside Matt Crawshaw with the bat.
“Liam Tobin will be better off for the experience as well.”
Simmonds said Tobin’s performance opened the door for more District players to join the representative sides, citing the likes of Ryan de Vries and Mick Walker as candidates.
