Top Aussie moments in Lego

BRITISH photographer Mike Stimpson has recreated scenes using Lego to mark Australia’s favourite moments.

As part of Lego’s 50th anniversary this year, fans voted for their top 10 moments via the company’s website.

The creations, which included Cathy Freeman claiming gold in the 400 metres at the Sydney Olympics and Cadel Evans winning the 2011 Tour de France, were revealed yesterday .

In July, almost 14,000 votes were cast from a shortlist of Australian moments.

The Newcastle Museum hosted a Lego exhibition and competition in July.

Stimpson recreated the moments and photographed them for an online gallery.

Others in the top 10 are: (2012)  Racehorse Black Caviar undefeated in 22 races;  (2004) Steve Irwin feeds a crocodile  while cradling his baby son; (2002) Steven Bradbury wins gold in the men’s 1000m speed skating at the Winter Olympics; (2000) Nikki Webster stars in the Opening Ceremony of the Sydney Olympics; (1997)  The Castle film receives widespread acclaim; (1983) America’s Cup victory for Australia; (1979) Mad Max, a  post-apocalyptic film starring Mel Gibson; and (1973) Sydney Opera House opens.
