The 6900 square metre store will be built on land on land on the Murray Valley Highway at the eastern end of the town which has been earmarked for redevelopment for almost a decade.
Bunnings will be joined at the Kaiela Business Park by two car dealerships, Robin Brewer Toyota and Pigdon Motors Holden, which could provide further job boosts.
The business park is being co-developed by Judd & Sons and Melbourne-based builders Pellicano Brothers.
Previous owners had plans to build a large-scale supermarket, but one has subsequently built at the southern end of Belmore Street which required Pigdon Motors to temporarily relocate to Benalla Road.
The Bunnings store development recently gained planning approval from Moira Shire with developers poised to announce a builder before Christmas.
Yarrawonga Bunnings is expected to open in August next year and will join others in Wodonga and Wangaratta with another store located at Shepparton.
Bunnings has committed to a 10-year pre-lease which represents an investment of $10 million.
The development will include a main store, indoor timber trade sales area, building materials and landscape supply yard, outdoor nursery and parking for more than 140 cars.
The total Bunnings’ site will occupy 14,500 square metres, Pigdon Brothers will build on 9000 square metres and Robin Brewer Toyota on 6000 square metres.
Bunnings’ general manager of property Andrew Marks said the company was committed to supporting regional communities.
“Bunnings’ investment in the Yarrawonga area will provide great job opportunities for the local community, with over 60 new positions expected to be available in the Bunnings team," he said.
"It represents strong employment opportunities for local residents and school leavers."”
Pellicano Brothers managing director Nando Pellicano said a future stage for the business park had zoning in place for a supermarket and retail development.
“Having Bunnings commit to this location alongside Holden and Toyota is a huge endorsement," he said.
"We look forward to delivering this fantastic facility and pushing on with the stage two subdivision.”
Robin Brewer Toyota has been based at Cobram for more than 20 years.
Pigdon Motors also has a dealership in Corowa.
