Volunteer Tim Keown said a large tree that came down across St James Crescent in Albury about 10am on Boxing Day was one of few incidents for NSW SES.
“On Christmas Eve we also had two call-outs for branches down on cars, but neither car was damaged,” he said.
Resident Heather Elliot said injuries could have occurred, if not for the rain.
“That might have kept people from being out because there’s a lot of families riding their bikes there on a nice day,” she said.
The Albury Civic Fire Station attended a small fire on Creek Street about 6pm on Christmas Day, likely started by a discarded cigarette.
Jesse Featonby of Albury was the first to alert emergency services of the blaze and said it was frustrating to know it had been caused by carelessness.
“The wind was pretty strong at that point of the day so an ember could have gone across the road,” he said.
“It’s pretty disheartening to see on Christmas Day.”
