The development application for the two projects to be carried out by Volt Lane Pty Ltd was lodged with council this week and will again need the approval from a regional planning panel due to the price tag of the works.

Approval for a $53.5 million commercial office, hotel, retail markets and multi-deck car park was previously granted to Volt Lane Pty Ltd in 2010.

Subject to planning consent works are scheduled to start in mid-May and be completed by November.

The applicant is seeking to re-position the carpark on the former gas works site and create more than 700 public car spaces which will almost double the present capacity on the site.

The development application states the multi-deck carpark will be relocated to the eastern boundary to reduce the impact on neighbouring businesses and present a more uniform streetscape.

It was originally intended to be built on the northern end of the site.

"The relocation allows the first and second floors of car parking to be constructed outside the zone of contaminated land," the application states.

An additional 31 spaces will be created under the changes.

Albury mayor Henk van de Ven said council would look at interim parking measures to ensure minimal disruption to workers and visitors to central Albury.

Pacific Accor will operate the seven-storey motel which will have an additional 15 rooms under revised plans.

Conference facilities earmarked for the first floor will shift to the mezzanine level.
