In a 20-player survey conducted by The Border Mail, the Englishman grabbed 40 per cent of the vote.
East Albury captain Cameron White (25 per cent) and Lavington quick Nathan Brown (20 per cent) also featured prominently.
St Patrick’s Jarryd Hatton, Belvoir’s Matt Jaensch and Lavington’s Jethro Menzies were the only other bowlers to poll votes.
I’m happy to be on his side this year
- Trent Ball
Weighell returned to the Border from England before Christmas and shapes as the Bushrangers’ trump card as they chase back-to-back premierships.
Coach Trent Ball said Weighell was all class.
“I faced him last year in the semi-final when playing for Wodonga and his spell was as close to unplayable as it gets,” Ball said.
“We was around the wicket, quick and short, no width … all the things you don’t want.
“I’m happy to be on his side this year and only have to face him in the nets and I make sure that is limited as well.”
Belvoir’s Zach Simmonds is rated the best spinner.
He picked 50 per cent of the vote to finish ahead of Tallangatta’s Matt Armstrong (20 per cent) and Albury’s Kade Brown (15 per cent).
