Wangaratta Council has set up the fund to go towards the education, support and welfare of Mrs Chetcuti’s two teenage children.
The council employee of 20 years was tragically killed two weeks ago.
Council executive officer Brendan McGrath said a number of people had been asking how they could contribute to help the children.
“It might be that it pays for something in particular in the short term or it can be held onto,” he said.
The trust will be administered by the council.
Mr McGrath said fundraising events would be held in the future, but not until after Ms Chetcuti’s funeral.
Money raised from the Broken Hearts event organised in Melbourne will go towards the fund.
To donate, transfer money to the “Karen Chetcuti Appeal Account” at BSB: 033-260, account: 365 904.
