The year 6, Jindera public school student earned the right to compete at one of Australia’s toughest rodeo competitions.
Colten, 11, is from Gerogery in southern NSW and was chosen to ride in the Australian Bushmen’s Campdraft Rodeo (ABCRA) junior finals at Tamworth.
For many the event holds pride of place as one of the most prestigious events on the competition calendar.
Colten said the experience – which entailed an 11 hour-drive to Tamworth – was amazing and he was thrilled to place fourth in the average in the under 11s barrel race.
He said the atmosphere of riding at the Australian Equine Livestock and Equestrian Centre (AELEC) in Tamworth was certainly memorable.
To qualify Colten and his horse Turbo had success at a range of rodeos on the ABCRA circuit including Goulburn, Geurie, Queanbeyan and Tarcutta.
“I was lucky to have a really successful year,” he said.
Colten said he was fortunate to ride such an honest horse that he got along with really well.
