Wodonga Magistrates Court heard Braydon Johnstone was involved in a battle between two groups and attempted to stomp on people fighting on the ground at about 4.40pm on July 12.
He was with two accomplices when they went to the centre looking for retribution.
Johnstone ran at the person they were seeking who had two associates with him and a punch was thrown.
Two others began fighting and then Johnstone made his stomp attempt.
The incident was captured on closed-circuit footage and Johnstone, 18, of Morrison Street, Wodonga, yesterday pleaded guilty to an affray charge.
He also pleaded guilty to a criminal damage offence which involved breaking his girlfriend’s laptop computer on a brick fence after they argued on June 22.
Solicitor Greg Duncan said there was no evidence of any injury caused by Johnstone to those who were fighting.
“The victim refused to make a statement,” Mr Duncan said.
He said Johnstone had been on a strict curfew since the incidents.
Magistrate John Murphy ordered a pre-sentence report and adjourned sentencing until December 11.
