Red Cross, in whose name she served, recognised her contribution with an afternoon tea and presentation at Albury’s Murray Gardens Retirement Village.
Mrs Ross, 89, received the Gilt Rosette for a volunteer career that began when she lived on a farm at Brocklesby.
Being a small rural town, “there was not very much going on there”, she said.
“I wanted to join either the Red Cross or the Country Women’s Association and my husband said that I could do one or the other, not both.”
She chose the Red Cross and continued her service with a different branch after moving to Albury in the late 1980s.
“It’s a very worthwhile organisation and I’ve enjoyed my time there immensely,” she said.
Family, friends and fellow volunteers, including some from the old Brocklesby branch, joined Mrs Ross for the award ceremony.
Bungowannah Red Cross branch president Olive Shearer, who organised the event, said the recognition was much deserved.
“Over the past 60 years, Eve has raised a phenomenal amount of money and helped so many people in need,” she said.
