Sam Stephens (4-67 off 26 overs) was outstanding for the Bushies, who made the most of a bowler-friendly wicket after losing the toss.
Jack Craig (46), Robbie Jackson (36), Cooper Garoni (33) and Andrew Berg (30) all got starts for the Bulldogs but fell at crucial stages of the innings.
Tallangatta skipper Matt Armstrong said the reigning premiers were in a good position but still had plenty of work to do to to secure victory.
“The wicket looked pretty flat but it was doing a fair bit off the seam for most of the day,” he said.
“Normally the ball goes pretty soft pretty quickly around here.
“If the wicket plays the same next week, that will be a very competitive score.
“We will definitely have to bat well to chase it down.”
Armstrong said the Bushies were more focused on remaining in the top three than finishing on top of the ladder.
“Ideally, you want a home final,” he said.
