Magistrate Tony Murray would not read out the text when sentencing Lucas in Albury Local Court on Monday because parts of it were so offensive.
In part, the text from Lucas, 22, abused the victim for being “a mother keeping our son away from his father Christmas Day”.
He told the woman it was a “selfish act” and warned how she and her ex-partner would be in hospital “soon enough”.
Mr Murray said such behaviour could not be tolerated.
“Quite clearly it would be terrifying to receive a message like that,” he said.
Mr Murray said it was “just no way to start the Christmas period” for the victim.
He warned Lucas that if he continued to act in such a way he might lose access to his two-year-old child “because the lady is entitled to feel safe”.
Mr Murray further warned the court was “running out of patience” with Lucas and that if he continued to not be compliant then the only option in future could involve jail.
Lucas, of Railway Parade, pleaded guilty to stalk/intimidate with intention to create fear of harm as well as contravene an apprehended violence order.
The court was told Lucas and the victim were in a relationship for almost three years.
The relationship broke down in November of 2014.
The victim received a letter from Lucas on December 14 asking if he could have the child from December 25 to 27, but she refused.
She then received the text message from Lucas on December 21.
Lucas was placed on a three-year good behaviour bond and fined $500.
