Revive gives disadvantaged people the chance to attend professional appointments at a low cost.
Overseen by St John’s Anglican Church and run by volunteers, the twice-monthly clinic offers treatment, refreshments and a place to sit and have a chat.
“For some people it's their therapy, their emotional therapy as well as their physical therapy,” volunteer Jan Lonergan said. “It's the company; I think it's just talking to each other and sharing their experiences.”
Revive can cater for five or six therapies each clinic, but is limited by the present shortage of therapists.
The benefits did not just flow one way, according to Border osteopath Annabel Ranford, a regular volunteer.
“I find it very satisfying, very humbling,” she said.
“It's actually taught me to be a better practitioner, to be a lot more open and to be a better listener.”
Kinesiologist Natasha Jackman agreed.
“You get to learn more about people and all the different situations they go through in their life,” she said.
“It just opens you up, I think, and it's very helpful to them.”
