Tsatsimas said the club was left frustrated by Football Federation Australia's decision, feeling that it was unfair to punish players when the issue strictly related to off-field matters.

"We are disappointed in the result," he said. "Disappointed for the playing group, the coaching staff, the administration and the owners, but most of all for the fantastic membership base of 18,000 people, who've done nothing but great for this club and have contributed to a whole lot to our success.

"It's disappointing because it puts another pressure on us that we don't need. And the people that are accountable – the players – are the ones bearing the onus at the moment, as well as the coaching staff and the club itself. Those who conducted themselves in that behaviour aren't the ones accountable.

"We feel the recipient of the penalty is not the one who should be bearing the penalty. Notwithstanding that, we are a club and we need to take that on board and deal with it appropriately."

However, he did admit the club does have an problem with an anti-social group of fans and that the Wanderers were determined to rid themselves of that following.

"I appeal to those who have conducted themselves questionably to comply and behave as you would in any other part of society. By that, I mean being a law-abiding citizen," he said.

"Show your passion as any other true football fan would, but don't do it as a hooligan. For those who cannot and will not comply, don't come back. You are not welcome.

"Stop using our club as a vehicle for your own selfish and narcissistic purposes. You are not wanted and never will be."

Tsatsimas reiterated his view from earlier in the week that the troublesome fans only seemed to appear at away fixtures.

"There's been no incidents [at home] but having said that, we can't rest on our laurels," he said. "Obviously there's an issue in terms of away games against particular opponents and we need to be continuously working towards the optimal level of security."

The problem of anti-social fans has dogged the club since its inception in 2011. However, the Wanderers are determined to end the issue once and for all.

"We will keep fighting. We have the motivation, we have the expertise there and we're on top of this," Tsatsimas said. "But obviously with what has transpired, there will be a more stringent application of protocols and that's something which is unfortunate."

Tony Popovic has been busy preparing his team for Sunday's match with Wellington Phoenix in Parramatta and Tsatsimas said the coach was naturally concerned at the prospect of losing points.

"I've had a brief conversation with the coach and certainly, he's disappointed," he said. "But he's a professional and he'll get on with it, as he does in every other facet of his work. That's what we all do here."

Tsatsimas said he was shocked by the timing of the fans display at Etihad Stadium ahead of the completion of the FFA's review into the appeals process for banned fans. The FFA has also announced it will be releasing a new national flare management policy next Monday.

"I can't speak for how the FFA is seeing this but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that the timing of this is absolutely mind-boggling," Tsatsimas said.

There is likely to be an increased police and security presence at this Sunday's home match against the Phoenix - and almost certainly so at next weekend's Sydney derby at Allianz Stadium.
