Back then, a train would leave Spencer Street at 6.15am and arrive in Wodonga by 1.39pm. Historic society committee member Marie Elliot said she remembered catching the Spirit of Progress train to Melbourne.
"People would be waited on in the buffet car, I can still remember the silver rattling," she said.
