The blue-green algae outbreak has left most swimmers cautious of entering the waterways.
Murray Regional Tourism chief executive Mark Francis said it was an opportunity for people to look at activities away from the water or to go boating, kayaking and fishing.
“We’re focusing on the can-do attitude from operators and making sure potential future visitors are aware of the situation,” he said.
“By doing so people are usually still happy to come and might try something they hadn't planned.”
Albury pair Andrew and Sue Peake noticed the warning signs at Noreuil Park on Thursday.
It was enough to deter Mrs Peake from entering the water, but not Mr Peake.
“I've seen about half-a-dozen people swimming down here, but there are quite a few people less than usual,” he said.
