About 700 children from six orphanages in Vietnam will also benefit.
The host of one of the 42 scheduled sales, Marg Rapsey, is donating all her profits to the kids that inspired her during recent visits to Vietnam.
“They’ve inspired me to get my hands dirty,” Mrs Rapsey said.
“By raising money I can help with their food, clothing, shelter and education.”
Last year Mrs Rapsey, whose son is in Vietnam teaching English to students, raised $700 for the children.
This year she’s not confident of topping that sum despite having antique furniture and silver for sale.
In its 14th year, the festival is expected to attract up to 500 tourists.
Founder Mary Aldrich said her original idea hinged on attracting visitors from out of town.
“It works well in a small town like Tallangatta because you’re not going to get people driving out from Albury and Wodonga for just one garage sale,” Mrs Aldrich said.
“It’s pretty popular, the dealers usually turn up about 6am or 6.30am.”
A map of sale locations will be available from the Information Centre in the heart of town from 7.30am on the day.
