John and Marie van Lint will light up more than 150 bonsai trees at their Urana Road home as a fundraiser.
Mr van Lint said the floodlighting created a fairy-like environment among the trees, some of which dated back to the 1950s and 1960s.
“It’s quite a different atmosphere,” Mr van Lint said.
“With all of the shade and shadows it’s quite magical. It’s something different too.”
Mr van Lint said they hosted the event for the first time last year when the idea came to him after visiting Gardens By The Bay in Singapore two years ago.
He said those gardens were lit up at night on a spectacular and grand scale.
“They used light and music in the gardens and it felt like Alice in Wonderland,” he said.
“I thought the concept could be applied to bonsai too.”
Mr van Lint began learning the craft of bonsai trees in the late 1960s and has since trained with Japanese bonsai masters.
He holds workshops at his Lavington property.
Meditative music will feature at the twilight bonsai display, which will raise money for the Murray Conservatorium Choir.
Marie van Lint’s botanical artworks will be on display at the premises.
An entry fee of $15 includes wine and cheese.
The twilight bonsai display, which will be open from 7.30pm until 10pm, is located at 534 Urana Road, Lavington, next to Barney's Rubble.
