Seven-dollar chance Corsica Lad ran best on a wet track to win it’s second Flat Knacker in a row.
The win was also Cavanough’s fourth consecutive victory in the 900m Albury carnival sprint.
Cavanaough’s other runner, heavily backed favourite Escebee, didn’t handle the wet and finished in fifth.
“We drew 15, and I said to the owner if it doesn’t rain, we’re no hope,” Cavanough said.

Asked if Corsica Lad would be suited to a sprint at one of the metropolitan races, Cavanough’s response was frank.
“My license says Brett Cavanough country,” he said.
“We’ll keep him here.”
