World Autism Awareness Day on Saturday aims to increase understanding of the developmental condition, which can affect a person’s communication and interaction with others.
Aspect Riverina will host a family fun bike ride from Albury’s Hovell Tree Park to Wonga Wetlands and back for a picnic lunch and games. The event runs between 10am and noon.
A sensory friendly session of Zootopia screens at Regent Cinemas at 10am.
On Sunday Albury Airport will help children with autism become more comfortable about plane travel.
Families will experience getting a boarding pass, going through security screening and getting on and off the plane – everything but an actual take-off.
Wodonga’s Jason Voll, whose son Jasper has autism, said Border Facebook pages offered a sounding board for families affected by the condition.
“People can vent or ask for advice, it's a great group,” he said.
“Everyone supports each other, the highs and lows, celebrates each other’s big moments.
“For a lot of us small moments are big moments.”
