Bold Sniper, a six-year old gelding trained by David Hayes and Tom Dabernig, is among 34 nominations for Friday’s $150,000 Wagga Gold Cup (2000m).
Murrumbidgee Turf Club chief executive Scott Sanbrook was delighted to learn the Queen’s colours could be among the Cup field.
“We haven’t been given a heads-up that she’ll be on track,” Sanbrook joked.
“But it’s wonderful to think the Queen’s involved in the Wagga Gold Cup.
“It goes to show that owners of all levels can be represented in these races.
“You have your battlers who’s it a bit thrill for just to have a Cup stayer and then you go to the other end of the scale.”
Sanbrook declared the nominations are as strong as they’ve ever been and hopes the depth will ensure a strong field when acceptances are declared on Tuesday.
The nation’s leading trainer, Chris Waller, has nominated seven horses including 2014 Cup runner-up, Beyond Thankful, Dance of Heroes and Junoob, the winner of last year’s listed Ballarat Cup.
Along with the Waller and Hayes stables are other names considered among the royalty of Australian racing – James Cummings (Reigning), Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes (Messene),and Peter and Paul Snowden (Disclaimer).
Wodonga trainer Brian Cox has nominated Baby Jack.
There were also 34 nominations for Thursday’s $100,000 Town Plate (1200m) including Clarry Conners’ Decision Time.
Wagga trainer David Heywood has nominated Calke Abbey while Cox has put forward seven-year-old Chinzia.
