Carpenter left the field early in the game with a hamstring complaint while Gaston came off with an ankle injury in the third quarter of the 10.15 (75) to 10.11 (71) victory.
The Hawks, who moved two games clear inside the top five with the victory, will be desperate for them to recover for Saturday’s clash against finals aspirant Wodonga Raiders.
Sean O’Keeffe, Michael Clark, Daniel McCullough (four goals) and youngster Isaac Willett stood up in Carpenter and Gaston’s absence as the Rovers registered their fourth win of the season.
Bill Hansen, Sam Harvey and Tyson Logie battled valiantly for Corowa-Rutherglen but narrowly fell short of clinching the Roos’ first victory of the year.
