The man’s case was supposed to have settled during a recent special sentencing day in Albury Local Court.

A large number of matters were listed for magistrate Tony Murray to pass sentence, including some going back a couple of months.

But Jason Hyland’s case had to be adjourned to a later date to allow for the preparation of a new, full pre-sentence report.

The  24-year-old, a labourer, of Campaspe Street, had pleaded guilty to a single count of assault.

Police previously told Mr Murray how Hyland squeezed his girlfriend’s throat “with force” while moving out of their Albury home on February 24, making her vomit phlegm.

Hyland then pushed her backwards into a kitchen bench.

The couple had argued after Hyland returned home late, the victim upset he had visited his ex-girlfriend.
