Canberra runner Dominique Ferguson first competed in the race “many years ago” and said the image of the hills plagued her during her preparation for the event.
“I did some hill training on Thursday and thought the whole time this was going to be nothing compared to Nail Can,” she said.
Ferguson said her game plan had been to get up the hill anyway possible.
“Then i just followed my coach’s advice, when you run down a hill you don’t rest ... and just keep the momentum going and on the flat try and find some rhythm and just hold on,” she said.
Ferguson came 28th overall in the 11.3 kilometre race in a time of 48 minutes, three seconds.
Stacey Loccisano was the next female at 49.01 followed by Brittany Campbell at 51.12.
