Corryong police Sergeant Liam McMahon said the vehicle was travelling north on Shelley-Jingellic Road towards Walwa near the Murray Valley Highway when it rolled about 8.30am Tuesday.
"I'm not going to speculate, but basically the truck left the road for a reason - we don't know why," he said.
"We're still trying to work out what's happened."
VicRoads advised drivers to seek an alternative route as the road was expected to be closed for most of the day.
Sergeant McMahon said the truck was driving within the speed limit and no alcohol or drugs were involved.
"There's nothing to indicate anything untoward," he said.
The 44-year-old driver was taken in an ambulance to Albury Base Hospital with suspected broken ribs.
Despite tipping on the driver's seat side, Sergeant McMahon said the man had managed to get out of the truck alone.
"He was conscious and in shock," he said.
Wodonga-based logistics company Greenfreight operates the truck and had organised a mounted knuckle boom loader to clean up the logs, arriving about 11am.
The road was closed to traffic either side of the accident but local traffic access was available from the Walwa end.
