Greens Senator Richard Di Natale moved the motion on Tuesday and gave Senator George Brandis a deadline of 3pm Wednesday.
He called for “all documents created between October 2013 and May 2016 relating to the funding of hospitals in regional Victoria, and, in particular, the funding of Wangaratta hospital, including the withdrawal of $10 million, and any commitments made to the former member for Indi (Mrs Mirabella) in relation to such funds”.
The motion was passed in the Senate.
Senator Di Natale’s motion came almost two weeks after the Labor Party called on the federal Auditor-General to investigate a promised upgrade of the hospital being withdrawn by the Liberal Party.
Sophie Mirabella sparked the investigation with comments made on a Sky News broadcast from Wangaratta.
“I had a commitment for a $10 million allocation to the Wangaratta hospital that, if elected, I was going to announce the week after the election - That’s $10m that Wangaratta hasn’t got because Cathy (McGowan) got elected,” she said.
