The Lavington star’s impeccable record served him well, with the tribunal taking into account that Wednesday’s hearing was the first time in a 16-year football career that Stevens had been brought before them.
It was a different story for Wodonga Bulldogs tagger Tim Kindellan, who was handed a four-match ban, with two matches suspended, for the incident on Saturday which saw the duo reported for striking.
Stevens and Kindellan both pleaded guilty after being booked by field umpire Michael Bocquet following a fiery third quarter stoush in the Bulldogs’ win over Lavington.
“We give kudos to the boys for acknowledging that it’s a bad look,” umpires advocate Jason Sofield said.
“Both have been quick to put their hand up and apologise.”
