With only four points separating the teams at half-time, the Demons charged home to savour their best win of the season.
Nicholas, who debuted as a 15-year-old and played in the club’s 2002 and 2005 flags, was one of the best on the ground.
“It was a good effort by the boys,” Nicholas, 29, said.
“We didn’t kick straight in the first quarter but after that we played pretty well.”
Nicholas is the first Corryong player since Andrew Whitehead to play 200 matches for the club.
While Corryong had winners on every line, full-back Jarrod Cass was outstanding in keeping Tumbarumba goalkicker Ben Carey to three majors.
The Demons lost defenders Jim Barlee and Brenton Low to injury before the match.
Federal accounted for Cudgewa and Bullioh defeated Border-Walwa.
