Country Fire Authority members from 17 brigades received the National Emergency Medal at a ceremony in Wodonga on Friday.
The medal, which acknowledges service and support to a community during a nationally significant emergency, carries a clasp engraved with Vic Fires 09.
Northern Victorian MLC Jaclyn Symes presented the medals to recipients from Wodonga West, Beechworth, Chiltern, Allans Flat, Baranduda, Buffalo River, Carlyle, Dederang, Eskdale, Gundowring, HVP Plantations – Ovens, Mudgegonga, Myrtleford, Rutherglen, Stanley, Tawonga and Wooragee.
Ms Symes said the CFA members showed courage and commitment.
“Many of these firefighters awarded the National Emergency Medals are from brigades that responded to the Indigo Valley and Barnawartha fires in December last year and did a fantastic job,” she said.
