As well as having three cars in the main series, the team has a car in the third tier Touring Car Series for the first time.
The Touring Car Series is for older V8 Supercars that are no longer eligible to race in either the Supercar series or the second tier development series.
BJR’s number 14 commodore is driven by Townsville rookie, Josh Smith, who has a strong carting pedigree having won numerous state titles.
In his first race outing in anything other than a go-cart, 19-year-old Smith put the BJR car on pole for the first race of the year at Sandown in April.
With limited time in the car and running against experienced V8 drivers, Smith is in the deep end but is up for the challenge.
“I’m feeling pretty confident going into this weekend since it’s the team’s home track,” he said.
“To back it up with another pole like we did in the last round would be the best way to go, but I’ll try to aim for some race wins.”
The car he is driving has great history as it’s the first BJR car to win a V8 Supercar race in the hands of Jason Bright at Barbagelo raceway in 2011.
The V8 Touring Car Series has five meetings for the season.
With three races this weekend and with the home crowd behind him, Smith is a good chance to collect some silverware.
