HUME registered its finest interleague victory with a gutsy seven-point win over Riverina at Wagga’s Robertson Oval on Saturday.

Osborne’s Duncan McMaster was brilliant in defence as the competition made up for last season’s representative disappointment against Ovens and King with a 10.9 (69) to 8.14 (62) triumph.
CDHBU duo Kade Rowe and Damien Wilson were tough in the clinches while Marty Bahr, Josh Gaynor and Nic Holman also turned in strong performances in the victory.
Ash Murray kicked three goals for the Hume league, which was able to hold a narrow advantage throughout the second half after kicking two late goals to take an eight-point lead into the main break.
Hume league coach Josh Walker was proud of how the team took it up to their more fancied rivals on the big stage.
“Talking to Merv Wegener and Barry Malone and a few blokes like that, they’ve touted it as the best win the Hume league has ever had in representative football,” he said.
“For those guys to be that excited, it obviously means a hell of a lot to the league.
“I don’t think anyone expected us to go up there and beat them so that’s the most pleasing thing.
“We pretty much dominated all the general play for the entire day.
“We won the game with our defensive efforts, our tackling and our inside work.”
Wagga Tigers pair John Anstee and Shaun Campbell were among Riverina’s best players.
