Aussie Farm Stories polled 2415 online votes to place second in its quest to gain a $50,000 rural hero grant from Aussie Farmers Foundation.
Healthy Kids Bus Stop, a mobile clinic scheme in remote NSW, received 3292 votes to claim the prize.
Aussie Farm Stories stems from the southern NSW Creative Catchment Kids initiative run by Wirraminna Environmental Education Centre.
Creative Catchment Kids manager Owen Dunlop said the idea polled well to be so close to the worthy winning cause.
“It's been very positive and people now know about Creative Catchment Kids,” he said. “It’s been a huge win because it’s demonstrated that we’ve got great regional support and people are obviously benefiting from our program.”
A new grant application has been submitted to fund a North East extension of the project, which encourages children to create books about country life. Mr Dunlop said Murray Local Land Services had committed to Creative Catchment Kids for the next 18 months.
