As hundreds of dairy farmers and supporters – mainly from Victoria’s north central, western and southern districts – marched through the streets of central Melbourne many from the North East were back on their farms.
Greta’s Justin Evans had planned to attend the rally but a rain front moving towards the North East and expected to pass through the region on Wednesday night and Thursday mean’t his priority was on his farm.
"They're talking a couple of fronts coming through now and I just need to get another 40 acres sown and I'm finished," he said.
"… It's hard to squeeze everything in and I would’ve loved to have went but it's just one of the things with dairy farming.
“Although you try, you can't do everything."
John McAlister, who operates a dairy farm at Bruarong, was in the same position, unable to attend because of work.
Victorian Farmers Federation Ovens Valley branch secretary Loretta Carroll said Wednesday’s rally would go along way in raising greater awareness of issues facing the farming sector.
It was organised by lobby group Farmer Power and certainly attracted attention and support from the public.
