The association will field senior representative teams in the men’s and women’s divisions at Hawthorn and Geelong.
Hockey Albury-Wodonga coach Jeremy Payne expected Warrnambool, Geelong and Ballarat to provide stiff competition for his team.
Payne said Tony Donnolley and regular Victorian Country representative Dom Wild would be key players for Albury-Wodonga.
The Spitfires sit fifth on the Capital League table, which Payne hopes will play to their advantage over the weekend. The Strikers are coming off a 6-0 belting of North Canberra and will be full of confidence for the tournament.
“It’s the best of country Victoria,” he said.
“A good advantage we have over these other teams is that we play together every week in the Capital League whereas a lot of those teams get thrown together for the representative stuff.”
