WITH an average losing margin of more than 190 points, it would be easy to write winless Wodonga Saints’ season off as a disaster.

But that’s not the case, according to coach Troy Vennix.
The Saints have been hit hard by injuries with key players Lachie Mann, Mitch Brown, James Ryan, Luke Hutton and Chris Beswick among the casualties.
In their absence, youngsters Ky Short and Tristan McRobert, who recently played his 100th match across all grades for the Saints, have shown plenty of promise.
“To be 100 per cent, I’m really happy and excited with this year,” Vennix said.
“The scores are not reflecting where we’re at – we’ve had 26 players out through injury or unavailability since round one. The year is not a write-off at all.
“We get a lot of feedback saying ‘what are they doing’ but without actually sitting down and watching the games, people don’t know where we’re at.
“We’re only a couple of key players away from being more than competitive.”
The Saints will host a ladies luncheon during Saturday’s match against Chiltern at Martin Park, with proceeds going to the Border’s Parents and Babies Service.
Tickets are $40, which includes entry to the game, lunch and a complimentary glass of Brown Brothers Prosecco on arrival. Tickets are available online via Eventbrite or by calling Jacinta Gandolfo on 0421 481 683.
