New youth mayor Katelyn Byrns, 17, said the group had already been talking about ways to educate teenagers. The Albury High School student said youth unemployment was also high on the agenda.
“We definitely have a good team, they are all so smart and have great initiatives,” Miss Byrns said.
“We believe one of the major issues for youth in Albury is poor education on sexual health.
“The Border has high teen birth rates and chlamydia rates.”
Winona Horton, 17 was elected deputy mayor of the 17-person council, made up of members aged 13 to 17.
