It can also be disappointing no matter which candidate you are backing, especially when you look at recent views about the former Indi federal member, that in essence she is someone who cannot make Indi matter, she is a plodder. History, however, bears out the facts that where others failed, Sophie Mirabella played her part in very significant and beneficial federal initiatives. Two good examples are: achieving the Howard government announcement of the Albury-Wodonga Hume bypass and facilitating those first necessary federal funds to remove the railway from central Wodonga.
Let’s not so quickly forget Sophie achieved those federal funds for the excellent practical outcomes we enjoy now and for decades ahead.

Victorian Premier must go
AMONG my most treasured possessions are two medals. One belonged to my father the other to belonging to me.
They are CFA long service medals, they are present to the Country Fire Authority volunteers who have completed 12 years service or more. CFA volunteers receive no financial reward, they have never expected any. Their reward is is the satisfaction they get from giving their time to a good cause, protecting their community from fire.
Now, we have this union puppet called Daniel Andrews and his gestapo with plans to desecrate this great organisation.

No time like showtime
What a wonderful few hours was enjoyed Saturday night watching Albury Gang Show.
The enthusiasm shown by all the cast members; members, from all scouting movements, including guides, was evident. The last six months of rehearsals came across as a pleasure to watch. Not forgetting the hard work of costumes and scenery by back stage crew which enhances the show.
If people missed it this year make a date for 2017 in June, it is a great nearly three hours entertainment made possible by dedicated youngsters and adults.
Well done everyone, I’ll be there next year.

How not to spend millions
Nice to see that under the new improved Federation Council, Mulwala appears to once again miss out. As a Mulwala resident and also an employee of a tourism provider I am gobsmacked there appears to be a blatant disregard for my town once again under the new management of our expanded council shire area. If the council feels the need to have a branding strategy for Rutherglen/Corowa, why do they not see the importance of doing the same for Yarrawonga/Mulwala? My end of the council is a hive of activity with concert tours, boat races, the Cod Classic fishing competition, three large clubs providing a range of entertainment for all ages, tennis tournaments, nationally rated golf courses, rod rallies, ski shows and competitions, not to mention the natural beauty of the area, with Lake Mulwala at the centre of both towns.
I guess time will tell - but I have a feeling that the areas of Mulwala, Urana, Rand and all of those in between are going to be left wanting because Corowa will once again decide they’re more important than everyone else. It would appear that this is already happening - five of the next eight ordinary council meetings are to be held in Corowa.
